Loss Of A Good Soul And A Wonderful Person

I would like to kindly ask you all for a moment of silence and a little prayer for Dr. Tarik Salman Aljuhani. A good soul, a wonderful person and a loving father and husband. He passed away today after being in a coma, due to a medical error, for months.

I only met him once, worked with him for a day at organizing a photography exhibition in the lobby of King Faisal Specialized Hospital in Jeddah two years ago. I was just a girl he didn’t know who showed up with a bunch of photo prints. He had no reason to be nice to me, professionalism would’ve been sufficient since we would’ve probably never crossed paths again after the week of the exhibition. He introduced himself, gave me his card and asked me in the nicest way possible to help them set up the props to hang the prints, only if I had time to spare, he said. He was effortlessly kind, some people strain to show kindness but he was simply kind, and he was loved by many for his kindness.

  1. May Allah accept his good deeds and forgive his transgressions ...

It is amazing that, sometimes, a person’s tiny nicest gestures can always be remembered and kept dear to heart …

I believe you just provided a great gift to him by publishing this post with everyone reading and saying Ameen to your prayers …

  3. He is certainly in my thoughts and prayers.

The "due to medical error" is chilling, but my thoughts for him and his family are warm.

  4. Chiara: thank you dear.
The anesthesiologist whose error caused that wasn't even licensed to work in Saudi Arabia and no-one is taking the blame for this error.

his kindness, though I've only worked with him for a few days, certainly left its mark on my life.

P.S. tried commenting on your blog but the comment wont show.

  6. Souma--That is even worse. Few people outside of medicine, and some inside it, realize that the quality of your anesthesiologist is at times more important than the quality of your surgeon, and at all times just as important. One of the best I worked with in Canada was an immigrant from Hong Kong, who was almost a caricature of the small fast spry Chinese guy with the incomprehensible accent, who would burst into a patient's room for the pre-op assessment, smile a lot, jabber, examine, and fly out with all the info he needed, leaving a stunned patient not sure what happened. In the operating room he was always chattering, and joking, but when a major blood vessel "got nicked" he was all action, the surgeon stood back, and the anesthetist was all over his machines and the patient at the same time, basically straddled the guy on the table, found non-existent blood vessels and saved him--rapid surgical closing and off to recovery room.

In short, your wonderful professor died for all the worst reasons, incompetence, illegalities, cover-up.

I am so sorry for your loss, and for how it happened.

  7. Souma PS-- sorry about the commenting jinn. I shall try to exorcise it. In the meantime, I usually type in my comment, copy it and then start battling the commenting jinn, and if it eats my comment, I paste it back in and battle some more. Others have sent me the message by email, and I put it in for them.
It seems to be better behaved (to me at least) yesterday, but I will exorcise it some more.
Thanks for trying, and I look forward to your comments.
